View Full Version : Any chance to add ban by domain name?

Many times repeat offenders have dynamic IPs and a seemingly inexhaustable supply of CD-Keys.
Any way to extend UTAN so it could ban like this?
*.hsd1.va.comcast.net
there's one kid who keeps getting keys and coming back to compete with new keys - with 2 ranges, 24.125.*.* and 65.97.*.* all from that domain... It would be beneficial if whole domains could be locked down via UTAN GISP.

You guys should port the UT99 HostNameBan mod over to UT04.

Yeah, hostnameban uses host masks. With some ISPs, this allows you to block only a region or city.

I knocked this up for you. Rolls in at 12k - does the trick and as isn't a mutator so doesn't bother the whitelist status.

Let me know if you need any changes or there are any bugs you want fixing.
Get it from: http://piglet.titaninternet.co.uk/ut2004

Was thinking about this last night - probably best to have it set up like this:
BannedIPs=186.12. rather than BannedIPs=186.12
This will meant that it will block 186.12.xxx.xxx but not 186.12x.xxx.xxx

you mean ban by his host mask?
yes! that's exactly what i'd like to see!
piglet - i might be a little dense - but i fail to see how the script you wrote would ban by hostname?

It would allow you to ban all 24.125.*.* and 65.97.*.*
I've not looked into reverse DNS lookup in UT - but if there's a function to do this in USCRIPT it wouldn't be hard to add that in.
Hmmm - found Resolve/Resolved - but they seem to take a Domain and give IP....will search more

AFAIK i can already ban by range. Not "UTAN ban by range" but, i've been able to go into webadmin and do exactly that 24.125.*.* - and it seems to accept those values (and prevent connections from those addresses). am i mistaken?

Yeah, banning by host mask in UT was awesome. I'd love to have it in 2k4.
