View Full Version : What's the policy for repeat botters?

Meaning folks who keep getting new CD-Keys?
There seem to be several (i can think of 3-4 players off the top of my head) that have had a global ban, gotten a new key and gotten caught cheating again (sometimes several times) but have gotten away with only individual server bans.
Is there a precedent for upgrading repeat offenders new keys to Global?
Also, what's the policy of "Warez'd" keys? Many of the keys I am thinking of have been used by 4-5 people (residing in Canada, the midwest, florida etc.) Is it only once they are used in Europe or another continent that they are considered Warezd?
p.s. will anyone have time to review the UTAN bans that have gone into "Accepted" to see if they warrant a Global?

You have to be very careful with the "Warez'd" keys.
I have played from Canada, Florida, NY, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and several other places.
Just because it's from a different IP range/location DOES NOT mean it's a shared key. Even from different countries does not mean it's shared.
If it's used from different locations at the same time, then that is a different story.
IMHO, any admin who bans a player just because his key was used from different locations without checking into it first is a bad admin and should not be allowed to run a server.

Good point.
As a cross - reference, I'm attempting matching IPs to repeat botters with similar ranges (meaning last octet may be variable :(
Speaking of IPS - is there any way I can check an IP to see if there are any UTAN bans against a GUID from it? I mean other the obvious of searching the appeals forum, which seems to be hit or miss in that regard. I say this because cheating in TAM has been out of control since 119b26 ended, and i would like to see the 10+ people who keep coming back and getting new GUIDS locked out faster.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong, and even if there was, it would be a very bad way to try to ban players.
There are too many ISPs that use dynamic IPs so you would run a very good chance of banning an innocent person.
Interesting, I just noticed someone deleted one of the responses to this thread. I guess they do dot even want DD or Elf posting here anymore. A pity.

They tend to ban D² members on instand sight. (D² == DD & ELF Merger) Normal players have a maximum of maybe 10 keys or sth like that, D² has well over 10000 keys so is it even worth it trying to ban them? The only way we can ban them is by using HWID banning and even that is useless as they will just make a HWID Spoofer ...

You missed something in my posts.
The point that i was making was that by cross referencing, one could better establish identity. If a known cheater gets a new guid, and has a similar IP and uses his name again, a match on IP and NAME would provide evidence that the new GUID belonged to the cheater.
I rarely, if ever ban by IP.
And to the guy who said that "normal" players have up to 10 keys - define normal please? I spent the $40-50 ONCE and have had the same key since the game launched. Why would anyone have 10 keys?

A few for sharing with friends, a few for botting and the last one, if any left, to enjoy the game? :P

Considering the number of people who have quit you'd think the key trading sites would be swarmed with them. Not to mention a new copy costs but 10$ now. A couple years ago somebody having even 3 keys would be unheard of, but things have changed.
