Not asking for much really, just gigs of .UZ file hosting maps/textures/mods, etc...

Anyone know a site that does this for free?
A very looong time ago a site did this for a while. Performance wasn't the best, but they had lots of packages etc...

I did see one a while ago but I'm buggered if I can remember it.
Having a search to see if I can find it :)

I thought about this. When I was searching for the MODOS utils package, this site was just about the only one Google returned.

So if they have MOST of the stuff I want to re-direct, is there way to specify more than one re-direct site? I could put my specific stuff on mine, and 'leech' that hog Skeletal Chars.

BTW: I'd check with them before I did anything like that.

Hot Damn Tomale!
If they will host my logo, it's a done deal.

Many Thanks,

Don't thank me thank Bry for that one :)

You can only have 1 redirect btw so if your logo is small I wouldn't bother with it being redirected, just get it straight off your server

I just emailed the dude at ucc.sobservers.com & asked that he get UTPureRC53 up. So if you are thinking of doing the same, don't bug him.

Azazel

You can :)
From a dos prompt in your UT system folder:

[code:1:71f8e1ab46]
ucc decompress \<path to file>\<name of file>[/code:1:71f8e1ab46]

Bry

Uncompressing them does work, but you get none of the readme info that comes along with a proper distribution.

Will work fine for most packages, but if you after a particular map, it may require a texture. I suggest you get maps from nalicity.

Agreed.
Either that or just type the name of the map in a search enigine, then d/l it.

Decompressing the .uz file requires alot of work sometimes. The easy way to do it is decompress it, then light up the game. It will tell you what files you are missing, then you repeat the process till you have the map and all of its textures.

The other way to do it is launch it in uedit.

There have only been a few maps I havent been able to find on Google from the sob .uz server.

Hi again :p

Wondering if I can host my own uz files on my own server??
For quicker UL to the client?? less time w8ting??

And if... how do I do in that??

Thx in advance.

Of course you can.

Although I'm not sure you mean your very own re-direct server, or the very same box and/or ip your UT server is on.

The later would only be an option if you have sufficient bandwidth upstream. Most ISP's (in the US) limit client speeds to the net. Of course you may be an ISP, or have access to the fat pipe.

Using the very same box would rob resources from the game engine. I'd suggest not going that route.

I'm sure Azazel or Bry will point you to a helpful tutorial that will give you the exact syntax of the .ini entries to make it happen.

I have a pretty fat pipe ;)
10Mbit/10Mbit is pretty much a fat line in my eyes.
And I thought that it might get faster if the Custom files that I have is compressed for faster UL and less w8ting to get into the server.
I have done a couple of Maps myself from Q2 like Q2dm1 and Q2dm2.
Would be nice to play them and they are very nice 1on1 maps.

If it´s no quicker with the uz file then it´s no idea...maybe the files isen´t that hard compressed to make a difference....but I had to ask.

Yes you can do that np ( id did actaulyl say that on my redirection) As UT has a limited send rate. SO setting up a webserver is very possible. You coudl even make a website for your server etc :) Since you have windows 2000 you can use the inbuilt ISS to setup a webserver, but we warned keep windows fully up to date via windows up date as well as any antivirus and firewall as ISS is known for being hackable

How do i redirect to my local machine to download .uz file in place of the normal files ?

also is there a way of testing that your redirection is working ?

thanks

Azazel

As Bry has just mentioned Mortus you need to run a webserver on your local machine :)

Mortus

What i do already http://www.nbs.servebeer.com :D

Is there a way to set a max download size before it goes to the redirect URL ?

thanks[/url]

Azazel

Not sure but I would re-direct anything personally .... everything is compressed and everything is quicker to download ... win\win situation really :D

Mortus

I guess ............. i was just thinking of how to not have to compress everything in my system, maps, textures and sounds folders

Azazel

Best thing to do ... get UT-Compress-a-lot or something similar
Add everything to it then run it when you go to bed .... in the morning you have all UZ files done :)

To answer your question on download file size, you can modify the section of your UnrealTournament.INI that is as follows:

[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]

then find the entry for
MaxDownloadSize=

if you enter a 0 I think it accepts "ALL" sizes.
If you enter a size like 150000 it will allow for most mutators and some skins to be downloaded, but not maps which are generally much larger. this size is in bytes (150K).

Of course the AllowDownloads= in this same section must be set to True.

I hope that helps you.

The is a program out there called Acorp game manager that can extract maps from cache files, decompress .uz, files and compress .uz files. I have it but i'm not sure where you can find it.

do you need to make your files .uz format or will UT download them in there .utx type format????
