Hi all,

I have been running UT servers since forever, and always trying to look for the best pings and settings available to make my users happy. Even in UT I always had the question about the best OS for the servers, and lots of people had problems with Windows and went with Linux. Myself I tried setting a Linux Server 2 years ago, and i was so confused that went back to Windows.

Now UT2k3 is here and here is the question again. I just ordered the following for my new UT2 Server :

Athlon XP 1700
MSI Mobo
512MB PC2100 RAM
80GB 7200 HD
3Com NIC

Thinking about putting Windows200 Server, but while going thru the epic forums, i found this comment :

This tells me that a Linux Server would be a "whole new world" compared to any others (unless i am getting it wrong). When I had my UT server on my cable connection, I was able to host 8 cable/dsl users with no problems, now i have seen that the pings have gone up alot .... 100+ (all this running win2k server). Since Epic is saying that linux is gonna run alot better, will I see alot lower pings if i install linux on my server instead of win2k ?.. If so..which version of Linux will be the best to run UT servers ?

You comments, Opinions are very welcome.

Thanks
