Hi,

Pretty soon we`ll have a big lanparty. I set up a old laptop as dedicated server. Runs win2k, cpu=800mhz, ram=512, to my opinion this should be adequate.

Problem I have is when I connect to the thing i het stuck. I can look around freely, no hickups. But when i start to run, it`s like 2 steps forward, 1 back, sometimes no movement at all ??

I gues it could have something to do with netspeed ???

Thanks for your help,

XP i assume? if so, go to task manager and find ucc.exe in the list of running processes, right click on it and set the priority to "above normal" If you have no other applications running on the server (i.e. webserver or ftp etc...) then you can set it on "High" this will further better XP's caching and paging of the associated UT data. your game should start up faster too as more of the game will be in physical ram and less of it in pagefile. Also disable all unnecessary services and uninstall any unnecessary programs running in the background. Do not allow poer managment to throttle back your system speed during idle time either.

Would you recommend setting the priority up higher for Win2K also?? :dontgetit:

I would. Its a dedicated server right?

Then Dedicate it!

There are issues with servers on laptops:

(quote from Jack Porter @<hidden> epic):

______________________________________________________
Unfortunately laptops with variable CPU speeds cause all kinds of
problems for the Unreal engine's timing because we test the CPU speed at
startup and assume the CPU speed will always be consistent.

This is because we use the CPU cycle count instruction as the basis for
all our timings (including the sleep time). To convert cycles to
seconds we need to use a consistent seconds-per-CPU cycle time.

i have a similar Problem with my Notebook.
But i don“t think it is becaus the CPU Clockrate. Because I testet the server on win98 on the same notebook, an it works. So i think it is somthing wrong with my System Config.
