running 2 servers on dual CPU system .. w2k

ive been told i can set up 2 servers and dedicate a CPU to each of the servers?
any ideas hows this done?

or in w2k ?

Here is the quick way, start both servers then right click in the task bar and select "Task Manager" then goto the processes tab. Now right click on one of the server processes and select Affinity, there should be 2 CPU's listed select one for it to run on, then do the same for the other process.

I know there is a way to do it when you start a program but I have not foud the indtructions yet.

but i need an option that is a once off fix , not something i need to do everytime i start a server

Int the W2K-resource Kit (or on the WindowsNT 4.0 CD) there is a tool called "Imagecfg.exe". With it you can permanently bind a .exe to one CPU.

Not sure if it works with the same .exe in 2 different folders, but worth a try...

But you shouldnt do this as the OS is a much better judge of which CPU to use than you. Leave them unbound it will work just as good if not better.

You are right, but only if the Application is SMP-capable!
Only if the Apllication is able to benefit from Multi-CPU Environments. As long as UT2003 is NOT able to use both, you can bind it to a CPU, and you'll get better performance!

No the app doesnt need to be SMP aware. This is purely an OS scheduler thing, you dont need to and shouldnt bind the processes to the CPU's
