I made some new mod, usefull for competitions.

It allows admin to make screen shot for all players on the server. After the map/match he can order players to send him that screenies or it can be placed in rules of the competition.

This is just a tool, use it wisely (some ppl will whine about freez, but ... who cares? ;P).

robus, i've think about this, u can splash a random number on the players screen before SS to validate it and time stamp too, why not

I'd say :
AH, i've been waiting for such a mod for AGES, but needing to log in as an admin is not necessary (to me). I'd simply add a password to the "mutate ss " command (like the serverdemos option from modos utils).

Though this is a VERY useful mod : it's the only way to detect wallhacks or external cheats like a modified opengl dll (which is way C000000L) but as usual, ladder and cup rules need to b adapted to allow screens requests, and not only demos :/

Why not add an option that forces a screenshot on any client at a random time, and watermark it ? (ambitious, isn't it ? !!!)

it will create some problems due to the "freeze" when a SS is made.
and if this SS is made during a cap phase on eternalcave during a jump above the lava
but we can think that a SS is made when a player die, it will not make probs because the player is dying and btw, bot hud stay visible

there can be a lot of situations that freeze is not allowed to be :> (for egz hard fight for flag when sudden death is, or jumping with the flag by the lava or any space )

i can easly add that password, but then ... some ppl can use it as toy ;P

i understand that adding pass could help ladder matches ?? :>

coz a lot other competitions have admins, so they can make what they should :>

u r lucky if u have admins for ur important matches. Now, i don't know if it's possible, but force screenshots during autopause ? or say FREEZE, SMILE U R ON THE PICTURE ...

Also, dunno how to code a screenshot, but could it b interesting to take sthg like 200*200 around the crosshair, to reduce the freeze due to the screenshot. We hardly care abt the HUD or god knows what.

Now the ultimate thing would b to allow UT to upload the screens to wherever (server, a random ftp account ...), and prevent player from quitting as long as the screens r not oploaded. But i agree, that's surely not the aim of the already nice mod.

the hud is surely the most impotant bit :?

and the freeze will be different for each player. If I have no screenshots in my UT dir then I dont get a pause when I take one. If I have >50 shots already in there then it takes longer. >150 takes an age to complete.

players should be advised to clean out their old shots prior to the match

you also can not announce when the ss will be taken since they could just turn everything off

im sure if this is used we will see a different version of admin disconnect, one that just switches everything off if an admin logs in. although helios doesnt seem to like clanners which is what this is aimed at catching out so maybe he will leave it alone

Does this do a normal screenshot or a sort of screen dump like Fraps does ?

For ladders to accept this a few things would have to be different. The SS would have to be randomly generated via script, and more than once per level. Would be far to easy to simply not use your cheat until you noticed the slight freeze when a ss was taken, and then you are free to do what you want until end of map. Admin login just wouldn't work for alot of reasons, mainly because updates could very easily remove hack if adminlogin is noticed. This could also cause disputes of admin misuse also. Timestamp would be a must so images could not be photoshopped.

This is a good idea but I can see Direct3D players complaining about the freeze it causes. The freeze isn't pronounced on OpenGL.

any ideas of improvements are welcomed :>

like someones here (or on irc) said, i can add command with password, so admin do not need to be logged on or ss can be made by a player (for egz. mutate ss password or mutate ssp password)

if a timestamp is put on screen during SS, i think that this time stamp must appear randomly on the hud and that coordonate of the timestamp must be logged in server.log.
That's because fonc of UT is very standar so, every pic editor will be able to add specific text, so, if the player have a bad screen, he can take a clean one and copy timestamp on his bad ss in the clean.
Using random position logged will turn this work little harder.
