LAN connection problem-Vista related?
I asked some people before my buddy bought his new Dell Vista machine if there
would be any incompatibilities between it and XP Pro; they insisted that there
would be none. Not sure if that is the problem here or not, but anyway...
We are connected via a Bellsouth DSL router (2Wire), with the cable from his
machine plugged into one of the 3 jacks in the back of the router (couldn't get
the wireless connection to work so we'll settle for the cable for now). He is now
able to go on the Internet and is able to get lists of UT games from net servers.
I start a (non-dedicated) multiplayer LAN game (LAN chosen on the Network
options in the game for both machines) but my game does not show up on his
screen under "LAN." Both patched vanilla through 4.36 with Bonus Packs 1 &
4 loaded, nothing else.
First of all: any really stupid things which I am forgetting? The firewalls were
cleared (else he wouldn't be able to see Internet games). I am setting up the
server with port 80 (whatever that means). I thumbed through your wiki here
but didn't find anything which might help.
Of course there's the Vista thing (my machine the host is XP Pro), and Vista
occasionally gives warnings that certain programs "possibly did not load
properly" on his machine (this happened when installing BP4, but not the
original game), and some of the folders holding our mods came out looking
blank on his machine when I can clearly see all the files on my machine.
TIA for helping a clueless newb.
