I'm running a UT2004 Server on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise edition. A bit overkill for a game server, but it's also running other stuff. Just be sure you have the horsepower to handle the OS; it's requirements are higher than others.

I am also running Windows 2003 Server (Standard version though). So far no complaints.
I have had UT99, UT2003, and UT2004 running on it.

back before i had a dedicated server machine i tried out 2003 Server on one of my desktops, and i found it unsatisfactory. basically it works ok as a desktop OS but isn't compatible with everything under the sun. no surprise there i guess, considering its a Server OS... can anybody explain in lay terms what the benefits of using Server 2003 over XP are? i'm curious.

Running the demo ut2k4 with a max of 16 connections
also running on the same server Ventrilo and PHP def
When both servers are full we have a little lag the ping is between the 25 and 55 overall
(States ping 35 and 55)
(Europe ping 15 and 35)
(Netherlands ping 10 and 15)
(rest of world ping 55 and 95)
all using a dsl or T1 connection and higher
With a cable connection you're ping is 10% higher.
did not had any problems but we are directly connected to the IP Backbone of the Netherlands
take a look and play
Classic 62.250.1.182:7777 (must download a few skins and maps)
tuck 62.250.1.182:7771
enjoy

I also use Win2k3 servers for hosting games and I have no compliants. It runs like a charm. Most ppl simply doesn't know how to configure a WinServer so there is no wondering if ppl get performance issues. I heard from other admins that Unreal games even work better than on Linux servers if u set it up properly but I dunno coz I have no experience with Linux servers.
Anyway, for me it works nice.

I'm running the stand alone UT 2004 server on it and I have no problems with it at all.
Machine specs:
Dual 933 PIII Xeons.
1 GB Ram
60 GB Ultra160 Raid 5.
I also have 2000 advanced server running under VMWare on the same machine, with the software update server and Trends antivirus server running under the 2000/VMWare machine.

Thanks.
The reason I ask is that we seem to have cases (many...mostly) where no more than 20-24 clients can be supported, regardless of the available bandwidth or CPU.
We've been trying to get a handle on it for quite a while now (through UT2004 Demo).
We'd love to hear from anyone who's getting 32 players on a UT2004 server that's playing purrrfect under load on ONS.
Apparently there are a couple, but we're having trouble figuring out the secret.

I had been running a 2k3 server for some time, I just shut it down & started up a 2k4 server. I have not had too many issues running the servers. Once you nail down your .ini file the servers are pretty easy to run. I reccomend installing as a service rather than running from a .bat file. my biggest issues have been around lag, as I am running this server off of my cable modem (so if any of you have some tweeks, let me know) and the web redirect.

The most I have had at one time was only 10, (with 6 bots) so I don't know how it would run with more.
