SW,

***********UPDATE************

Just notice the last post. If it runs fine and your only worry is the n/a in game browser, see just that section below.

******************************

From what I've understood your situation looks like this:

<private lan> ------- <ut2k3 server/router/firewall> ------ <internet>
(all on one computer
with two network cards)

You've been using the multi-home option to force the game server to run on your external IP. However, no one from the internet is able to join your game.

Multi-Home Option: From what I recall from UT, that option was necessary to get the server to choose the right IP on a multi-ip machine, regardless of whether the two addresses are on the same sub-net. El_Muerte's comments, however, seem to indicate that the option should only be used where the addresses are on the same subnet. Hence, you should not need it. El_Muerte, is this right?

Firewall: You seem to be expecting your firewall to open up the ports to allow the server to accept connections. You haven't indicated what firewall you are running so there is no way for anyone to confirm whether that expectation is reasonable. However, given your experience, it may not be working as you expect. Therefore, try allowing incoming connections on udp:7777. Since you're dropping the use of multi-home, your server's ip defaults to the internal lan address. Hence, you'll need a forwarding rule to transfer connections received on udp port 777 at the ext.ter.nal.ip to udp 777 at the int.ern.al.ip.

Connection from LAN: If you try the above, have your game connect to the internal ip of your server, not the external.

Game Browser: Ping and other game info will not be displayed on the internet unless you open other ports in manner similar to that for 7777. I believe the other ports 7778 and 77787, all udp. You should confirm in the FAQs. Keep in mind that even if you do that, LAN-side clients may not be able to see game info if they go through any area other than the LAN Games tab in the browser. To be sure, you need to test from outside your LAN.

I hope that helps.

I think you guys missed it..

His network layout is wonky, the way I read it.. looks like this;

(server)-+---(switch)----(his box)-----('net/modem)
(other)--+

or..

(his box)--+
(server)----+--(switch)---('net)
(other)-----+

..with his box routing?

In either case this is trash.

(his box)--+--(switch)---(server)----('net)
(other)----+

..is the only decent setup.

I also have a feeeling he is using more than one ME!

Even '96 with WinGate would be better, but still TRASH!

Blow the server, put in Linux, Win2k or NT and bite the learning curve.

Then you have something that works and is useful!

..or just drop it and go skate boarding.

(Its late, I may have miss-read it)

.
