LAN-Client downloads really slow
I've set up an UT2004 Server on my old PC for lanplay. The problem is, the map download is going slower than it would for an online server, although the server is started using "-lanplay". Here is the full command I use to start the server:
ucc server DM-Rankin?Game=xGame.xTeamDeathMatch?Mutator=UT2Vote5 6.UT2VoteX ini=uT2004-server.ini -log=Server.log -lanplay
I've tried setting the MaxClientRate to 50000 but its still extremly slow. Does someone have an idea how to fix this.
thanks

Perhaps set up a webserver on the server itself and use that as a redirect

Well, a webserver is already installed there, so that wont be a problem.
But... something comes to my mind. UT downloads maps through port 80. Could it be that the UT Server and the webserver interfere with each other on map download?
And can someone tell me how I compress the maps, mods and mutators to the .uz format?
thx

Well, I tried it out. I shutdown the webserver and connected to the UT Server. Download speed has increased, but it's still not LAN speed. I'd like to try out the redirect

Well if you don't like to have a seperate folder with all custom files compressed, you could also add '-lanplay' to your startup line,
so you get: ucc ......... -lanplay
this should get your speed a bit higher

thx, but the issue is already resolved. Lanplay was enabled from the start. Now, when you start the UT Server, a script sets the webserver to another port and UT has a redirect to the new webserverport. Download speed is now extremly high (One player has downloaded an entire TC Mod (350 MB) in less then 10 seconds).
Thank you all

How about changing the webadmin port so it no longer interferes with the redirect server instead of changing the webserver port?

The Webadminport is 8080, so it doesn't interfere with anything. The only thing tat interfered at the start was that UT uses HTTP to send maps to the clients. Now, I have changed the port of my local webserver and I use this webserver as a redirect server

Client only fetch maps over HTTP when you use a redirect. Downloading from the game server is handled through the game protocol (using UDP).

Well, if thats true, why does my local firewall always control the maps, when its suposed only to scan Port 80 an why was the problem resolved after I changed the port of my webserver (Webserver and UT Server are on my old PC)
But that doesn't matter, it works now, so the issue is resolved

You could also have a look at my recent article about redirecting from a windows installation without compression: http://wiki.unrealadmin.org/IIS:_Red..._com pression
