Question maxclientrate: is this good this way?

Hi there again,
I was scrolling through some topics about UT servers, and saw many treads about the maxclientrate.
The maxclientrate on my server is now 16000 for 4 players maximum, and my line is a 5000 Down and 512 upload.
Now is the question,is that maxclientrate on my server to HIGH?
I see most have it at 7000 or so.
I saw it was something like: 512/8=64
Who can help me on this to get it good?
That server is running dedicated and 1 other pc i use to internet and game.
So i want to set it up that it wont lagg or something for players on the server.
Is it good how it is now,or what is wrong on this setting?
Greetzz
Ralph

In general it is said you need 7 Kb per player. You have 64 Kb, so with 4 players max you should be okay (you can leave the maxclientrate on anything above 7000 to 10000, 'cause the players probably won't use the rest of the bandwith, except for downloading packages when connecting). Just experiment with the numbers and you'll see the effect soon enough.

Now this is only theory. I don't know how things will work out for real. Maxclientrate is not the only factor involved in a lag-free game. The quality of your isp for instance is also something that is very important and unfortunately not something you can change easily.

Default Hmmm?

I didn't read past the part where you mentioned that yours was set at 16,000. All I can say is ouch! Actually that is awesome if you're one of the 4 players. Anyway, here it is straight from EPIC (the makers of UT):

http://unreal.epicgames.com/utServers.htm

Scroll to the bottom and your answer is there. I run 2 servers. One has been up for about 3 years now and used to be played tons. It has hosted well over 200,000 games and I may have heard lagg complaints about 30 times. My maxclient rate during all of this time for 12 players with my upload bandwidth at 360 was exactly 3000. Good luck. Connect to Curious George's Redeemer Insanity and check it out. I may have it set slightly higher now since for a while I cut the max players down to 10.

For my connect I had 384 up.. so a lil less then you... I managed to fit 8 players on mine with a maxclientrate of 6000 and a tickrate of 28.. it worked pretty sweet... it brought down pings about 15-20% and ppl didn't complain about lag to much..
