Default Port Triggering and UT2004 Server

I'm attempting to setup port triggering with my Netgear WGT624 so that I can run a UT2004 server. I've done a search on google, in these forums, and on the Atari forums and cannot find any clear answers. I know how to setup port fowarding, but I wanted to try port triggering because I have my network setup as DHCP. The Netgear has a layout in which it wants a triggering port, and then for inbound connections it wants the port range. I'm not sure what to set though and was wondering if anyone could help me out. Thanks for any help.

Hmmm...just to let you guys know. I just had my router open ports 8080-29000 and people still could not join my server or ping it. It's in the master list, and it gives the map name, but nothing else. What am I doing wrong I have ServerBehindNAT=True in the ini. I'm basically using the runserver.bat file to open the server, then I'll test it by opening UT and seeing if I can find it in the list and join it (and have others do the same that are outside my network). Any ideas?

How basiclly? That runserver.bat is not worth spit. Did you specify a start map/game type?

8080 is not low enough, by default you need ports:
7777/udp
7778/udp
7787/udp
27900/tcp
into the server. Make sure the UDP & TCP is set correctly.

You don't want all of those ports open to the server, just the needed ones.
If you're in doubt about settings on the server, rule out port forwarding by putting the server in the DMZ from the router if the router supports it.

So if I tell my router to make a trigger port of 7777 (udp) and tell it that when this port is triggered to open 7777-7788, and to make a trigger port of 27900 and to only open port 27900 when it is triggered, this will work? Or do I just setup trigger ports for each port and make it only open that one port (i.e. make 7777 trigger port and only open 7777 when triggered).

Ok, just to update, I tried specify each port individually and also tried making one port a trigger that opens a range of ports. Nothing is working. I decided to setup a software firewall and go directly to the internet (bypassing the router) to see what ports were being used as incoming (since the router is only blocking incoming, not outgoing). I found that when looking at the master list, when my server was being pinged, the firewall program brought up an alert saying port 1329 (udp) was being accessed (inbound). I couldn't get a ping from my server until I allowed access to the port. So I went ahead and set this up on the router - made a trigger port of 1329 that when triggered only 1329 is opened, and still no go. Here is my current router config setup:



So any ideas? Anything I am doing wrong? The service names are just random names I made up to call each port trigger.

BTW, for those who run Shadow's Experiment Bittorrent program, the way I have port triggering setup for it works perfectly. Just a FYI.

Have you tried getting the server to work without triggers first? Maybe once you have this part sorted you can progress to the triggers.

The tutorial clearly gives the ports required, as quoted by HaTaX - it also mentioned that if you are running a NAT router to make an adjustment in the ut2004.ini file.

I'm running a DG834g and have just set up a server and it appears to work (I had lots of problems sunday - see my reply to a previous thread).

The server works fine with a straight connection to the net (no router). I tried both port fowarding those ports listed and port triggering, and neither worked. I also have made the modification in my ini file. I've disabled my SPI firewall on the router, made the router respond to pings, and still nothing. I even tried to setup a machine as DMZ and it didn't work. I'm wondering if the router is really opening up the ports. It's odd though, everytime I do a port scan to see which ports are being accessed when I look at my sever in the list, I get a different port each time (I have a dynamic IP BTW, could this be why?). So anyone have ideas on this?

I definitly suspected that my ports were not being opened correctly by my router. In the end I deleted the entries I made in the router and input them again after reading www.portforward.com (though I dont think I did anything different here, except fully type in the ip number - ie 001 instead of just 1). Additionaly set my server PC up as a static IP address so that the rules on the router would be sent to that IP.

After doing those things it magically worked and could be viewed from the internet (had to use dial up connection to check that!).

How do you create the server to only use one port. I discovered that each time I start the server via the runserver.bat file, it assigns the server a different port each time (i.e., when I go into the master list and see my server, I copy the IP and paste it and it's always xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxx:xxxx, where the port number is different each time I quit and restart the server).

Let me give more info on the problem. I found out that I am the only one (or anyone on the LAN) that can see the server in the master list. No one from the outside can even see it in the list. Now when I try to join the server via the LAN list, it's fine, works perfectly, but when I try to join the same server via the master list, it won't connect. It also will not connect via pasting IP and port (and the port still changes each time I run the server). So has anyone else ever encountered this? Well, glad to say I got it working. I got rid of my Netgear Router and got a D-Link. Don't ever buy a Netgear if you plan on doing a lot of port triggering or forwarding. Sheesh...

try this i found this in my wgt624 netgear router cd i have the same problem as you so lets see if this works for us

Unreal Tournament Need to modify the [UWeb.WebServer] section of the server.ini file: Set ListenPort to 8080; Set ServerName to the Public IP of your router. 7777 (game)
7778 (server)

8080 (UT Server Admin)
