Hi LAN users can but internet users cannot connect. This has been plaguing me for a little while now BUT it snot going to beat me, (and with some help us)

Some basic info -
Server and LAN and WAN users are running XP Pro. Version 5.1.2600 SP 1 Build 2600

Game version is UT2003 dedicated server Version 2225. Not sure how to get patch level as this is dedicated server.

The server is connected to Alcatel speed touch ADSL modem. The server is also connected to PC I play on via LAN via Sitecom NexHub HA050 (10 Base)

The server is running Norton Personal Firewall and Anti Virus 2003. Firewall Version 6.0.4.34 AV version 9.05.15.

XP firewall is not running on the ADSL connection or the LAN connection.

OK firewall setup. The BAT file used to start the server & the file UCC.exe is listed as "permit all" in program control tab. The TAB Advanced then section general rules has the first rules as Permit - Connection to and from Computers - Any Computer - TCP & UDP - Ports 7777 to 7790 & 28900 to 28902.

OK the symptoms. I from my other Pc connected to the server via LAN can se the server and a ping of 20 in the LAN section. BUT. In the internet section I can see the server but the very familiar ping of N/A. On attempt to join I get the ADSL IP with index2 and then time out. This is also what happens to others not in the LAN.

I don’t really want to post the contents of the ini but yes I do have the serverbehindNAT=true as per below -

whats the server IP? have you been leaving it online and trying to have other internet people connect? when people on the internet (not local) connect to your server what happens?

try allowing incoming traffic on 10777 and/or 11777... i think one of those is required for adverting to the master server correctly...

OK lets get the first questions answered!

1)My IP is not constant as I have plain home ADSL. I will sort this out via one of those re-director thingy's once we have overcome this. ATM my IP is 82.3.85.2. I'll keep this up for a couple of days. What is constant is its a DM server named "Ra1derServer". So go PING and play if you can.

2)No I dont have the post 10777 - 11777 opnend as these are LAN ports but as above I do have 7777 - 7790 & 28900 to 28902 open.

OK so come on keep those questins and suggestions coming!

I tried to connect to my server via Internet connections and the following is the tesxt from the server window -

So as you can see it timed out after nearly four minuets and on the other Pc the screen stayed on IP:index.ut2 for the three mins then connection closed.

Suggestions:
[list:4394ea7b0f]Try the multihome=**.**.**.** command on the UCC command line with the public IP of the server in it. (It's going to be a pain because of your dynamic IP, but see if it works)

Frankly others have tried this kind of thing while using XP ICS and ICF. I don't think they were able to get it to work.

Apparently it's ambiguous whether ServerBehindNAT should be true or false.

You could try swapping the Client and Server PC position and running ICS in your CLIENT. Then the server would clearly be "Behind NAT", but I'm not sure Norton's firewall thinks this way... appropriate for ICS below it.[/list:u:4394ea7b0f]
It's not a clear win dude.

use the multihome thing i had same set up as u about a year or so ago and had same problem until i uses multihome
its cause the server binds to the lan address and not the wan address however u will have a slight problem as i did and thats dynamic ip only way round is to cheg the file eveyr time ur ip chages

sorry but gl and use multihome

Good observation, inox. But binding to the local interface when not specifying -multihome would be a bug IMO. It should bind to 0.0.0.0 which would match either interface. And when looking at my servers (Debian GNU/Linux) it does indeed bind to 0.0.0.0. Does the Windows server behave differently?

OK multi home is the Friday night first try. Then let me think some more about 50BMG points. A few things there I can look into and try to prove his logic etc.

Upon searching the fourm, this is the next best problem to what my problem is. I have a dual Zeon running Win2k3 Server at work, with 2 DSLs connected, and 2 Nic's, 2 Netopia DSL Routers, bla, bla, bla. Connection 1 is used for remote admin of the pc using Remote Desktop. Connection 2 is the one I am attempting to run a UT2k4 Dedicated Server. After severl trips thru the tutorials, I finally got it up and running, I think. I can connect from home, thru connection 2 and use WebAdmin seccessfully. When I use a second pc at home to connect to the game, I get a black screen with the address I connect to, never loads the map, or joins. The Netopia router is configured, for simpelton sakes, has the Default Server set to the nic ip for that connection. I have also tried the port fowarding of all the ports listed in this thread, and got the same resualt. The home pc is a P4 2.0 w/XP Pro, and a cable modem. It can connect and play on many other servers, so I don't think router issues on this end is the problem. I start the server using the runserver.bat file:

I forgot to include the cmd window that contains info when the home pc hits the server. After the last line:

Master server assigned our MatchID: 0

The x's are my home IP address. I think it shows the map starting when I connect, but I never connect. And when I escape out at home, the server adds another line.

Close TcpipConnection xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:13211 05/01/04 14:18:52

Does that mean it tried to connect for 5 and a half minutes?

I don't have time to diagram what I see in my mind's eye from your description, but you've done a good job so it may not be necessary.

This would require you to make some adaptations in the router setup at the server end, but it would be worthwhile. You could still use seperate IPs for game and remote desktop.

Second, since you can play on the server from home at all, I don't think the server has the setup problems preventing you from adding players, except perhaps that you may not be expecting it to work the way it will.

The server name is the Wan IP I am tring to connect to. However, this is the 1st of the 5 IP's assigned by the provider, the last change I made to the router setup was to make the Lan IP the default gateway, which makes the Wan IP to be used 68.254.224.166 (the Wan Gateway), so I probably should either change the servername to that, or leave it blank. The tutorial was somewhat unclear about that. I did not set a Multihome=, as I did not see that in the tutorials. What would that need to be set to? Yes both home systems can play on any Internet server, and at the same time. I can even host Internet games from home, but cable connection I have I get a lot of lagging with 4 players, Host and 1 additional Lan side, and 2 Internet players, from the same cable provider 1/2 mile away. Bonding the DSL's is not an option, as they will be used independently in the future, just a gift to have them available for now, and the server is short term also.

Connection 1 port forwarding: I have only turned on the first of 5 Wan IP's to forward to the Lan IP 192.168.1.11. No other forwarding on this one as it was not intended for the game traffic, but wait there is more.

Connection 2 port forwarding: Previous setup- first of 5 Wan IP's (as stated in servername) forwarded to the Lan IP 192.168.2.1, plus Pinholes for UDP 7777-7787, 28700-28702, 28900-28902. This config didn't allow connecting, so it was changed to :The Lan IP 192.168.2.1 was setup as the default gatway, which created conflicts in the router config and I had to remove the Pinholes to clear. This change also affected the Webadmin, I now had to connect to the afore mentioned Wan Gateway address for Webadmin to work.

Now I really mess things up. If possible try to explain this, If I start the server, and from home Join to Connection 1's IP I join and play. The question is why can I not join from Connection 2 if Connection 1 will let me? I did just discover this tidbit last night on a try it to see. I can Webadmin from either connection, so I know both work, but can only Play from connection 1. Does the game only accept traffic thru 1 Lan connection for playing? I have also notice, nevering having setup a dual ethernet pc before, there is an option in the Connection Properties for Network Load Balancing that I have never seen. When I tried to turn it on, I lost the Webadmin feature.

Well DUDE, you could spend quite some time playing with the settings in such a system and you may, or may not, ever get it to work satisfactorily.

Here's the way I personally chose to solve these issues when I had this predicament.

This router has an integratred DUAL WAN port and can do the load balancing for you.

Using such a device would make all the other settings fall in line easily and quickly because they'd be more or less standard per the tutorials.

It's not expensive, and is usefull as a router firewall on single line systems too.

Perhaps this time savings would be worth it to you.

We could continue to tough it out and get nowhere for the trouble.

I think I will just leave it alone for now. I can play and that is good enough for the time being. I do appreciate your efforts & the links, as bonding may become an option for redundancy sakes. I don't want to spend too much time on it, since it is a temp. server. I would care more if it could stay, but that will not be the case.

So , i have spent about three days trying to figure out this "N/A" ping problem. I have found several posts on this site and some on the epicgames.com admin forum of people describing the exact same problem as i am having: The server will show up in LAN list just fine and LAN users can connect fine here, but in INTERNET list ping shows N/A and anyone (LAN and INTERNET users) who try to connect get the black connecting window.
unreal://*.*.*.*/index.ut2 and never connect.

The difference with me and everyone else is that my server was up and running perfectly, and then all of the sudden BLAH!!! no dice.

So, is this a bug in the master server, the dedicated server files, or what? I have tried all the prelimary tips(ServerBehindNAT=True in set in ini file, all necessary ports are open - like i said it was working, using multihome option in command line with both the public ip and local ip of the server machine specified)

Does ANYBODY have a clue on how to fix this damn problem or should i just quit wasting my time with it?? :angry: :angry: :angry:
