redirect refusal
For my portal, I use the Screen component. It is installed and has been added to the ServerPackages=Screen with all capital S. I compressed the Screen.u file and added it to redirect.gameservers.net/unrealtournament and for some reason it is refusing to send.
the Screen.u comes to 301 kb
the Screen.u.uz comes to 84 kb
Just before it refuses, it downloads 27% of Screen which is 301 kb - but shouldnt it be 84 kb?
either way here are my ini settings:
[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
AllowDownloads=False
MaxDownloadSize=0
ConnectionTimeout=15.000000
InitialConnectTimeout=120.000000
AckTimeout=1.0
KeepAliveTime=2.000000
MaxClientRate=7100
SimLatency=0
RelevantTimeout=5.000000
SpawnPrioritySeconds=1.000000
ServerTravelPause=4.000000
NetServerMaxTickRate=20
LanServerMaxTickRate=35
OverrideBufferAllocation=False
DownloadManagers=IpDrv.HTTPDownload
DownloadManagers=Engine.ChannelDownload
[IpDrv.HTTPDownload]
RedirectToURL=http://uz.gameservers.net/
ProxyServerHost=
ProxyServerPort=3128
UseCompression=True
Is there something i'm missing? when i download directly from the redirect server, the file is the correct, compressed version ( http://uz.gameservers.net/Screen.u.uz )
Can someone please help me

Have you tried setting AllowDownloads to True ? This is what decides if a server should let a client download a file or not.

that sets it so that the client downloads from the server and not the redirect server. it will work with allow downloads as true but it is slow and i see no reason why this particular file isnt working on redirect.
all of my other servers use AllowDownloads=False and MaxDownloadSize=0 which basically routes unlimited downloads to the redirect server. It works on any other file but this...
theres something simple that i must be overlooking

Maybe the uz compressed file has been corrupted ? I've had that happen once or twice and it would fit your description of the problem.

i thought that may be the case and have tried numerous ways of uploading it. would you mind compressing and uploading the file for me and i will re download the original and put it on my server, then see if that helps?

I'd love to help you out but it's getting late here (nearly 4 am). If someone hasn't sent you the compressed file by tommorow morning, I will do it then .
P.S: Be careful as there's different versions of the screen mod.

reinstalled Screen to the server and remotely controlled my server to compress and upload the file itself, i then waited for the redirect server to refresh and the new file become active and when i joined i still recieve the same error.
I have tried different methods of starting the server (listen, dedicated and service) and have tried other maps etc with no luck... i need some more bright ideas

could someone possibly install screen on their server temporarily and try and use redirect with it?
i am desperate to find out why Screen.u is an exception to the redirect on my servers and would like to fix the mistake if there is any.
thanks

Try downloading the screen.u.uz from the redirect and decompressing it. Compare that to what you have on your server. If they don't match, you may have to upload that one to YOUR server.. reuploading the version you're using to the gameservers.net redirect will not overwrite an existing one.

Hmm ... I've always used (in ut99,03,04 which has always worked for me ok)
AllowDownloads=True (yes you can get the file)
MaxDownloadSize=0 (but not here - go to the redirect)

i prefer to have allowdownloads=false because if the file fails on the redirect i will know about it. when set to true, it will try the redirect then use the server if not and i dont really have the bandwidth to play around like that.
either way the prize goes to Imaginos, thanks for your help everyone. thank god (imaginos hehe) its solved.
i was uploading my version and never thought to do it the other way around, i just replaced the one in the server with the one on redirect and alls well again, thank you very much!

i suppose its case sensitive and it could possibly differenciate between files of the same name with a different file size?

Linux is case sensitive but UT usually does a case-insensitive search for files. I don't know how it handles redirect files though.

Its to do with the server as opposed to the game. when run on a case sensitive OS, then UT becomes case sensitive, like on windows server 2003 i believe. either way gameservers.net redirect is case sensitive
