Your server doesn't show in the serverlist? LOOK HERE!
I found a website that queries the UT masterserver accessible through the www
http://gaming.dslreports.com/utmaster/
Pick the gametype you are running (probably DeathMatchPlus or CTFGame) and have a peek! My server shows up there, yours will too (if configured correctly ).

If configured correctly, it will show up everywhere.

Nein. I run the server from my home connection and I cannot initiate a connection to myself through my external IP address, so...
I hope someone does find this useful.

Thus, for people in the same sitation as me, they will see their server show up on the website I listed, but not in the ingame serverbrowser. Conclusion: everything is working fine after all.
Didn't expect these rude comments people

Nothing rude about my response. You said you cannot connect through your internet IP, well no one can, that's normal, expected, and thay way it has always been, so I was simply asking what is the point you are trying to make?
It's like saying "my server runs when I start it up", it may be true, but it's kind of worthless information.

I guess his point is that this makes it possible for home hosters to check if their server is visible to the outside world. Certainly no reason for you two to pick on him.

EXACTLY
Since this is a reoccurring question/problem, I think the website I posted can be a tremendous help to those troubleshooting this type of problem.
Just had to add:

No that's absolutely not comparable to what I was saying. The point I was making is relevant. Someone might wonder why they cannot find their own server in the serverlist ( NOT the LAN tab, "buttpirate") thinking they did something wrong -- even after knowing that they will never see it, for they cannot query their server from it's external IP address. To verify that it infact does show up, without bothering other people, they'd simply look for it on the website posted.
Phew, what a lengthy reply for such insignificant posts. And yes, "rude comments" was a bit extreme. Let's keep it at ungrateful, thankless, unthankful, unappreciative, what have you...

Most people are not able to connect to their own public IP.

You are both right. In higher class (or modern home use) routers, you can often set-up a route that will redirect requests to your external IP back to it's internal IP; transparently fixing this issue. Can't think of the technical name for this feature though.. thought it was something like "loopback".

I can't believe how rude (and un-informed) some of these guys are that replied to your original post.
It has never been a certainty that you cannot connect to your external IP.
I always did it and so did many others.
It is to do with your router/modem!!!

I agree with adminthis either.
when you connect through your internet IP from your home it is still a LAN test. run a trace route to verify that.
to verify its well connected to the master server you can also run a normal query from the ut browser. get servers in the right gametype, and then look for the IP of your server in user.ini. the master server has your ip (of your home hosted server) and send it to you in the list, but your ut browser don't show it because it cannot ping it from your computer.

Well, if you can not see your game in the browser from an internal IP, its got to do with your router. Set a DMZ host to your box and see if it comes up then. If so, you need to prolly port forward your game ports (i.e. 6667 and 6668). Remember, there are two ports UT uses. One to listen on and one for queries.
The rude comments may be rude, but do kinda bring out a bit of light to some. For some, its a matter of fixing the problem in a fashion to where the game runs as it should, vice having to go somewhere else to have to see it in the browser. Rude comments sometimes bring out the right fixes to your problems. Hey Squirrel, nice rude comment bro, but I think you could have done much better (you were a panda bear, not a grizzly slick... make it more rude...

Placing it in a DMZ makes it so you don't have to forward anything. All ports are automatically forwarded to the machine in the DMZ unless specified otherwise. <- Just re-read your response. Ok, nice suggestion for general server issues... but once again: this thread is for people whose server will not show up regardless of whether it's directly connected (be it by means of a DMZ) to the Internet.
Let me go over this one last time: do you think you've got everything set-up right, yet you can't find your server in the serverbrowser (that is the INTERNET server browser, not the LAN tab)? Try the website I posted and get your definitive answer. Let's leave it at that and not go into detail about portforwarding etc.. if you haven't got that down, this thread has no use for you and you'd be better off reading a ``how to`` manual on setting up an UT server. Perhaps this one?

Thanks Adminthis!
He has been CONSISTENTLY Correct throughout this whole thread!
Most of the rude comment guys had said what "appeared" to be what they thought was correct as to why their servers do what they do.
Not necessarily what was actually the truth.
My server works great!
The problem I once had was that I had to Turn OFF "Attack Detection" in my router!
There are many more settings in the higher end routers of today that can effect what happens on your UT browser and what you see or don't see.
Also: Some ISPs do Not allow "return loop" queries from your computer, so those ISP clients will not be able to see your own server no matter what.
My ISP has this in effect.
Best thing to do in that case is to go to your LAN tab - add your server showing there as a favorite.
Again - Thank you Adminthis for cutting through all the crap in this thread and coming through for the rest of us admins!
