Okay..
The DEDICATED SERVER has nothing to do with PLAYING the game!
De-install everything, remove the Registry entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2003
from your registry (regedit) and then install the Game (after rebooting) from the CD's.
After you did that start the game, go to "Host Multiplayer Game" if you want to BE a server OR go to "Play On-line/LAN" if you want to JOIN a server on the Internet....

If you still get the error after re-installing UT2K3 I think the only thing you can do now is contacting the customer support of EA or EpicGames.

Check your user registry. You should have an entry for UT2003 and one for UT2003Server. The CD key for each will have to go to the correct entry in the registry tree. You may not be able to run a dedicated server and play online at the same time from the same computer anyway.

Someone probably nabbed your CDKey and then put the game back in the box.... while else would he be getting Authentifications errors. Obviously it was correct and installed, but as far as I know you get that error for one of two reasons: either someone else is using your cdkey (but I still don't see how that would stop you from playing online if they aren't online already), or 2 the CD copy you have is terrible. A few guys on my floor decided that it would be a good idea to get the game and burn it - and sure that works fine, but the CD has technology that "senses" when it gets burned (kinda like Op. Flashpoint) and then disallows use for internet gameplay.... so they can only play LAN. I may be way off, but thats my two cents.

Both server and client use the same reg entry so do NOT install server on a machine with the client.
