hi guys ts me again, how do i support the ascII ona linux server, do i have to mod the ut.ini?

Linux and Windows don't share the same character set.

And that's probably why UTIII was a relative flop. New game, same sh*thead players ^^.

All systems support ASCII (and most characters sets always contain the ASCII table)

ASCII is 7bits (only 128 characters) and most of them are visible on a normal QWERTY keyboard.

What you probably mean is Extended ASCII ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_ASCII ) or even a different codepage.

And afaik you need to make sure UT uses a font that has these extra characters. Not usre if it's even possible.

It is possible, I remember Anthrax mentioning that he accomplished this while making a new scoreboard for UTGLv2, it hasn't been released yet and probably won't be soon.

Thanx guys, the most wierd part is that we had a server on a linux platformb before and supported ascII extended, yes sorry i meant extended and now on other host doesnt support it, i hope Anthrax realeases it, isnt another way to fix this?

Oh btw could any of you please change me the nick to -=STFU=-Your_God please, thanx

The linux dedicated server _can_ handle ascii nicks but no extended ascii nicks.
I was working on a hack to make extended ascii nicks possible on linux servers. It worked quite well but unfortunately it only fixed nicks so if someone used an extended ascii character in the chat it would appear as a square.

I could release this hack (after I sort some small bugs out) but it's a crappy solution anyway. It's really UTPG who should fix this ... but well, the chance that their next patch will ever be released is close to 0.00000001% now

Anthrax, did you ever release this? I want to look at this problem because it's impossible to kick/ban people using ext ascii in their nicks using console commands in linux client.

Apparently in uscript chr(-96) == chr(160)!!

Work that one out. Changed names by +256 to chars that <0 and viewplayer still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

I've blocked all extended ASCII nicknames on my servers for that reason. They get renamed to "Player". People shouldn't be using extended ASCII in the first place, since it can't be entered in UT's Player Setup window (only by manually editing your User.ini file or using some semi-cheat mod like that Elite-o-Mat posted earlier).
