Smile Server Tweaking help

I have had this server up for a while now. I want to maximize the gameplay on the server and any other tweaking i may be able to do to eliminate lag in any way possible. Here is my .ini
Do you see anything i should be adjusting? "maxclient rate? tickspeeds? connection speeds?" These are what i think needs some work. Yet i dont know much about what effects it in a good way. Any suggestions to make the server run better or faster is greatly helpfull.

The net config should go here [IpDrv.TcpNetDriver] and there are good values allready, except MaxClientRate.

In my opinion MaxClientRate=5000 is a little bit to small, because netspeed will affect frame rate. MaxClientRate=7500 is fine, excecially when using a single weapon mutator like instagib- or sniper-arena.

As long as you dont create server demos, then here:

What a shame of me. I was just doing a quick check not paying much attention to the ini section, sorry. Still, I think the Tickrate of 35 is the best one, it's the one you plan on LAN, you know ? It's a good compromise between performance and smoothness. kortniechan, tickrate is basically the amount of times the server updates itself every second, so if higher tickrate the higher the cpu usage will be but the game should be smoother(if clients can handle the tickrate). There must be a compromise and I think 35 is imo good. As for netspeed it depends on tickrate, if higher tickrate the higher netspeed must be to carry the tickrate. So if crowbar says 7500 is good for 20 tickrate, for 35 you should set about 13000(but I would stick to 11000 ). Anyway leaving the MaxClientRate set to 20000 will not harm if you do not care about your connection upload limit.

PS. There's a nice tutorial about netspeeds and tickrates in the Tutorial section here on Unrealadmin.

Thanx you guys.
I got mine set to:
MaxClientRate=7000>if i start getting alot of players i will probly increase-but with 8 players theres no noticeable lag<
NetServerMaxTickRate=30

these will work best with my bandwith.
Also i noticed the server runs alot smoother on windows if it is run as a service in the background opposed to running it on the desktop.

Since you have a instagib server there is not so much information to exchange between server and client, like in all-weapons mode, because no rocket smoke/explosion, no flak cannon balls, no greandes, no redeemer and so on. Less effects, less information exchange, less bandwith usage.

In my opinion your config should work well.

I have run one of my servers as a service before and it was really cool but the firedaemon program would only let me run 1 and no more. Does anyone know of a program like the one mentioned here in the section for running the server as a service that allows you to actually configure more than one server as a service? Yes, I mean a free version too. Thanks!

depending on the provider you rent from, tweaking isnt always the best

but all the servers that I run use a 20k netspeed 60 tickrate, keepalive time should be set to 0 at all times. Also, some mods will lag the crap out of ur server, I just keep pure7e & necassary mods that I need to run my server correctly. (TIW, NoTossweapon, SmartCTF, Modos30)

I dont use a program to run it as a service. Im useing whatever is built into XP:
Controlpanel > Administrative Tools > Services.
I can have as many as i want running, and it monitors them and restarts them automaicly when they go down.

Wasn't from the tutorial: bandwidth taken = framerate x 64
and netspeed = max bandwidth.

This means with framerate 100 (which my monitor can't even handle) my netspeed will be 6400. Anything else I will not be able to see in time -> delay -> 'lagg'. So unless you have really fancy hardware with framerate like 300 you never need 20000 netspeed. And 100 fps=netspeed 6400 should be fine?

Or is there a mistake in my argument?
This would mean tickrate makes no difference to bytes send... Have to check that one out.

Netspeed 5500 should be enough for a client to run properly at 1024x768 @ 85 Hz. At least that's the rule of thumb of picked up off TNSe's explanations .
