The dedicated server runs just fine, but I can't administer it.
I scoured for answers here on the forum and on the web. I changed my listenport a number of times to see if that was the issue. I have checked to see if webadmin is enabled. I added the login and password to the command line. as far as I'm concerned, I did the right procedures. But whenever I go to my browser and type in http://myip:listenport I get a dead page.

I checked my firewalls to make sure that the ports are open.
I have spent hours on this.

Would an expert, a kind soul, a TECH GOD or a combo of any of the three please help me?
Thanks in advance!

Hmm, need a lot more info here:

1) You posted to windows specific list so you're probably running a Windoze version... which version?

2) How are you connected to the inet? Via a router or what? How many network cards, etc.

3) Is <myip> the internal IP? E.g. The one that shows up via the DOS box command "ipconfig" or newer but not always there GUI winipcfg? Or is it the external one that the network knows.

4) Does the log file show anything about the "WEB" not being started or failing to bind (or success messages)?

5) Dead page? Exactly what error do you get? An error page, just the spinning icon/loading message, a totally blank page? If you get an error page what is the root cause that "friendly" IE hides at the very end of it's messages. Like, can't find server or DNS.... Do you see a login prompt at all?

6) Are you trying to get to the webadmin from the same machine, another machine on the local net, or from a remote machine via the inet? Have you tried doing: http://localhost:<listenport>/ from the server machine?

These are top of mind stuff that will help folks help you.

Since you are behind a firewall, you need to change or add the lines to your server's ini file:

In Section:

[UWeb.WebServer]
ServerName= Your Public IP

This may be what you've forgotten or didn't know you required.

Thanks deadmeat.

The info:
1) Windows 2000 Server

2) One network card , through a router, and I forwarded the ports to the server box.

3) The IP is my Assigned RoadRunner IP, in a DMZ.
I can connect to my server at home through my browser, from the Lan at work, using the aforementioned IP.

4) Not sure which log file you are referring to, if you are referring to the Event Viewer, all is well.

5) "Page Not Found" Cannot find server
No login prompt at all.

6) I tried to connect to webadmin through the server itself, through another computer through my LAN, and through work.

Please help me. I am going nuts with this.

Thanks in advance!

Just a tickle to get the forum server to re-issue the post notification

Please read my previous post. Ours seemed to overlap in time and you probably didn't see mine.

I'll watch this topic for a bit to see if you've any questions.

Ok, You said your server is "behind a firewall", then you said it's in a DMZ, and finally that you checked to see that the "Ports Are Open".

If your server is in a DMZ, the ports are open by definition. But I've never run my servers in this manner, because I wish to contol what ports ARE OPEN.

Please explain this setup a little more, and specify if you've "Forwarded" any ports using the firewall.

If you CAN administer the server locally (on the server or the LAN) then looking at the firewall is the right thing to do.

OK, LOL. Sorry I did both. It is in a DMZ AND I also forwarded the ports to the server box, I had to try all options.
So in sum, it is a DMZ which should make it that easier to work.

NO I cannot administer the server at all locally. That is where the whole issue is. I cannot connect to the webadmin , locally or remotely.

Let's do this.... let's undo all the firewall settings pointed at getting the Webadmin to work.

Then, let's concentrate on getting it to work locally

Once we have it going on the LAN, then we can add the external layer back in... Sound OK?

BTW - Which Router / Firewall are you using? It would help me to know which options you have, and understand your settings.

You have both Software AND Hardware Firewalls?

Which Linksys model, also the firmware version please.

We'll leave the software out of it for now.

When you first open a LinkSys Router's Web interface, a login page appears. This contains the model number.

After you login successfully, the Setup page (sometimes others too) contains the Firmware Revision information and date.

P.S. Please check to see if you have a private message from me.

Thanks for your earnest help 50BMG.

I found the problem. I had a good feeling it wan;t my hardware nor my firewalls, as an IT guy, I was pretty sure about all that.

My bat file was pointing to the wrong ini file. That's all it was!

And to all a goodnight was had.

Thanks.
